The surgeon begins by making an incision around the ear. He or she then lifts the connective tissue under the skin of the cheeks and releases the ligaments, lifting the lines of the jaw, jowl and mouth. This may also involve lifting the fat and muscle that lies directly underneath the skin to give the face that looks naturally younger look without appearing stretched or distorted. If you follow the advice of your doctor on how to care for yourself during recovery, you should be able to get back to normal activity within two weeks. The best way to find out if a minituck is right for you is to ask your facial plastic surgeon for advice. You might be a good candidate for this procedure if the skin around your mouth and neck is particularly lax. If this skin is loose around your neck, it should only be the result of looseness of skin and muscle, not by excess fat under the neck, looseness of the submandibular glands or both. The deep plane minituck is a very challenging form of surgery to perform, and not every surgeon can do it well. The best surgeon to go to for a deep plane minituck in the Charlotte area is Dr. Sean Freeman. He has been certified by two different boards of surgery, the American Board of Otolaryngology (head and neck surgery) and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Since 1988 he has focused on facial plastic surgery, and he is a pioneer in the use of the deep plane minituck. He has also developed a procedure called the SignatureLift, which is of particular help to younger patients and patients who have already had a facelift.
